Are robots important?
💬

Q: Are you serious that robots are so important today? They are essential to many industries including manufacturing, healthcare and space exploration. As an example, surgical robots are beginning to be used within hospitals in order to conduct extremely specific operations with less human error. Additionally, in large factories robots can do the repetitive and dangerous work much more efficiently than any human being. Which is why I unambiguously believe that robots are an essential conduit in this new civilization and will only be more needed as the years come.

Q2: Can robots be harmful to people’s lives?
💬

Of course, robots are influencing our lives both positively and negatively. On the other hand, they have simplified and optimized day-to-day activities. Automated vending machines in supermarkets and warehouses for online shopping, have greatly reduced delivery times. At the same time, there was a dawning recognition that robots were steadily taking away human jobs in many areas and creating unemployment and economic disparity. Of course, robots have improved quality of life in many aspects, but the rate at which they advance brings some critical social and economic implications (1).

Q3: What robot movie have you seen?
💬

Yes, definitely! I have seen many robot movies, and my personal favorite from those is the Will Smith movie I, Robot. It is a captivating futuristic world where robots are manufactured to serve humans but then find their sentience and start opposing human rule. To me, it raised really profound questions about artificial intelligence, free will, and the ethics of machines. And, it was both fun and profound at the same time, that it made me read the A.I even more afterwards.

Q4: Would you want to turn the driving over to a robot for long enough of time?
💬

This is a fairly interesting question. Self-driving technology has a ton of great possibilities and I believe it can eliminate vehicular accidents caused by human error, fatigue or distraction. Most traffic accidents are caused by human error, and you can see how a robot behind the wheel would theoretically make us much safer on the road. Nevertheless, I still believe the world can wait for autonomous vehicles since the technology is still evolving and there are issues with cybersecurity attacks, system failures or ethical dilemmas during emergencies. I would therefore say a staged and carefully monitored transition is the most reasonable.

Q5:What robots can do for you at home?
💬

If I’m being honest, there are already some awesome ways robots help us in the home. One example would be robotic vacuum cleaners like the Roomba can clean floors without human help, saving yourself a huge chunk of time. Home assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Home can turn on/off lights, play music for us, set reminders, and even order groceries in our name. In my view, home robots will be able to cook meals, wash clothes and even keeping company for elderly living alone shortly. For myself, I would love to welcome a robot in my home that could clean all the home household chores so I can do something more meaningful.
