1
A uniform you wear (or wore in) at school
💬

Lets talk about the school uniform I used to wear when I was in secondary school. In my mind, it features heavily but even now when I think back on this period, I get a warm sense of nostalgia.

2
When did you wear it?
💬

This is the uniform I wore from Monday to Saturday, every week during my school years. It became mandatory only during school hours and if a student was caught without wearing the proper uniform, he or she was sent to the principal’s office. This was the uniform I had worn for almost six years, from the age of eleven until I finished school with my O levels at seventeen.

3
Who bought it for you?
💬

I got the uniform, but my parents had to buy it for me. Every year, at the start of an academic session, I still remember how my mother took me to this shop next to our school only dedicated for selling our schools uniform. While she always was specific about getting appropriate sizes and ensuring everything was stitched, pressed and well fitted. We would almost have the same little ritual together, every time school came back.

4
What does it look like?
💬

For the boys it was a clean white shirt with navy blue trousers for our school. We wore a blue and white striped tie, black leather shoes, and white socks as well. The school emblem was sewn on the left breast pocket which gave it a very official look and feel. In our school girls wore a white shirt with navy blue skirt of the same colour. It was a very basic but clean uniform that made everyone look sharp and business like.

5
How do you feel about it?
💬

To be frank, dressed up as a child was not getting along with me much. There are many days I wanted to just wear jeans and t-shirts at school. But as I matured, I found it more and more useful. This eliminated the daily stress of choosing what to wear and created a uniform class of students from various backgrounds. Well, now when I look back at old photo albums, the sight of me in that uniform elicits a rush of nostalgia and pride for my comradeship, laughter and learning.
